'Spensive Starbucks
![]() | Norman Greenbaum - Spirit in the Sky |
I'm going to let everyone in on a big secret...$4 for a cup of coffee is a ripoff. We have two Starbucks in Denton; one inside the Kroger, and the other inside Barnes & Noble. Amazing isn't it? A city in the US with less than a hojillion Starbucks! I'd like to think it's because we're a bit smarter here.
Here's an example: Racetrac has a mug you can buy for $2.70 after tax. Not only can you combine about a dozen different flavors to make whatever kind of coffee you want, but there's also an instruction manual on how to make all kinds of combinations. What's the significance of the mug? The mug is 20 oz. and you don't pay for your first fill of coffee. Your next five subsequent refills are free. Still not impressed? Well how about the fact that a refill of that mug, or any 20 oz. coffee from Racetrac is 53¢ and just as good as any of the yuppie shite from Starbucks?
Trust me, you don't have to have a Racetrac near you. Quiktrip, Exxon, 7-11 and more have all figured out that good coffee doesn't have to be grandé and ordered from a barista and other nonsensical bullshit. If nothing else, give it a try and see if that "medium" coffee at Starbucks is worth over 4 to 8 times as much as gas station coffee. Don't you have better things to spend your money on??

Happy T-Day
![]() | Seattle Supersonics @ Los Angeles Lakers |
Well, it's that holiday where all us Americans love to cook a bird and eat til we go up a pant size. In my case, it's a bit smaller of a holiday this year, so I ate only part of that bird. A turkey breast roast, which was really good, with my stepdad while my mom is out of town.I ate a ton of snacks during the game, had a fairly good size turkey dinner, and then some coffee cake and ice cream afterwards. By the way, Go Broncos! I hope everyone had a great turkey day, and has a safe trip back home.

So many deer
![]() | Anaheim Mighty Ducks @ Dallas Stars |
It's turning into a fairly interesting week. I went hiking yesterday, about 7.5-8 miles I think. I now walk exactly like Dr. House as I must have jammed my leg somehow. On the plus side, I think I saw more armadillos and deer than I've ever seen in my life. It would sound like some huge wildebeest was lurking around, but no, it was just some armadillo scrounging below the leaves looking for whatever the hell they eat. The deer weren't scared at all and were about 10 feet away, except for the lone buck I happened to see which ran away the second I twitched. What a baby.
A couple nights ago I turned into a consumer whore briefly. I travelled over to Hastings and grabbed a book and a video. The video being The Black Keys Live, a concert DVD of the Keys when they were in Australia. It's very well done, and goes to show why they're one of the best bands out there today. Even for people who've never heard their stuff, you can hear how each song has its own cool sound and could be a hit right away.
I also picked up Lucky Man by Michael J. Fox. I saw him on Inside the Actor's Studio a few weeks ago and it reminded me just how cool of a guy he is. Maybe it's all planned and publicity, but I think he's the real deal. Finally, I snagged Battlefield 2: Special Forces for something to do when I don't feel like being productive. I haven't played the original BF2 for a couple months now, but I've been meaning to make some time for it (I haven't been playing games, period). They added in some cool new stuff like ziplines, grappling hooks, and nightvision for the new night time levels. I've been patching and installing stuff all night, and I think it's finally ready. Now I'm gonna go play!

Winter
![]() | Andy Moor - Halcyon (Alex m.o.r.p.h. Remix) |
Winter's coming soon. I just ran an errand and my truck said it's 35° outside. It's the time of year for football on Sundays, basketball up at the school, and movies & studying in between. I wish I had something really interesting and cool to talk about, but it's kind of a blah semester. Football's on the skids, lots of people bearing down to graduate soon, and I've lost contact with quite a few people for one reason or another.
I saw Walk the Line the other day, and I'll have to write up a 1MR on that. I'll spoil it by saying it's a good movie, and you should go see it. Also tonight I nearly passed out from lifting (legs today). At one point I put my hand on the back of my knee and I could literally feel the blood pumping through the vein back there. Not cool...
Well, I guess if I update again anytime soon, it'll be on T-day. Hopefully something more interesting than the usual blog fodder.

Sore throat
![]() | The White Stripes - The Denial Twist |
It's been a while. I'm sitting here about to start on a four page paper that was due a week and a half ago, with my only hopes being that a) she won't remember to check the date that I said I was going to turn it in, b) she won't care, or c) I'll seriously freak her out with the topic covered and she won't dare not accept it, lol. Oh, and I also have a sore throat right now that seems to have popped out of nowhere...interesting huh?
I'm thinking of getting a golden retriever, and thinking of naming him Link. The name comes from the Zelda games, and also that all the dog names I've seen are kinda stupid. Opinions?
